AAM AADMI PARTY demands Special Counter for Issue of Voter - TopicsExpress

AAM AADMI PARTY demands Special Counter for Issue of Voter Identity Cards. Everyday, hundreds of boys and girls throughout Odisha become eligible to vote as they attain 18 years of age. But there is no permanent system in place to add them to the voters list on a continuous basis. The Govt. springs into action only on the eve of Assembly or General Elections. The haste in drawing up new voters list within a short time period by involving school teachers, junior staff in Govt. offices, Anganwadi workers, etc. leads to many errors. As a result, thousands of eligible voters are deprived of their most fundamental entitlement in a democracy - TO VOTE. A team of AAP volunteers in Sundargarh recently met the Election Officer and Sub-Collector of Rourkela to discuss the issue. They were informed that as per extant practice, a person more than 18 years old can fill up Form 6 and submit it to the Sub-Collectors Office and the vendor appointed by the Govt. would twice a year issue voter identity cards. But this practice is undoubtedly inadequate as chances of misplacement of applications are very high and plausible. Instead, if special counters are opened in the Sub-Collectors Offices throughout the state on a permanent basis, that would help the eligible voters get their voter identity cards instantaneously. This would also minimize errors in electoral rolls. The volunteers have submitted a memorandum in this regard in Rourkela. Such memorandum would be submitted in other districts also very soon. It is hoped that the authorities will pay attention to this issue and take appropriate action
