AAP IN DEFAMATION LOOP: BOMBAY HIGH COURT GRANTED TIME TILL 21 MARCH TO FILE REPLY MUMBAI: The Bombay high court on Monday gave Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) time till March 21 to file its reply to a Rs 100-crore defamation suit filed by the Anil Ambani-led Reliance Infrastructure. When senior counsel Aspi Chinoy, representing AAP members, sought time to file the reply, Justice SJ Kathawalla adjourned the matter to April 3, after directing RInfra to file a rejoinder, if any, to AAPs affidavit by March 28. RInfra had filed the defamation suit against AAP over allegations of malpractices against its power distribution business in the city. In its court papers filed last week, RInfra said AAPs claims that it was overcharging consumers through collusion were false, misleading, malicious and defamatory. Counsel for RInfra Venkatesh Dhond had sought that AAP be restrained from repeating the allegations of the company being involved in a power scam. It wants the high court to restrain AAP from repeating the these and similar allegations. The firm said it was being targeted by the newly-formed party for political mileage. The company denied the claims.Last week, the HC had allowed RInfra to amend its suit and add new material, which it said would strengthen its case against AAP. The charges that the company was burdening taxpayers were made by AAP state convenor Anjali Damania, secretary Preeti Sharma Menon and member Satish Jain during two conferences last month.
