ABATIS TOMMYROT (utter nonsense) ON BUHARI By: Okoi Obono-Obla, Fri, Oct 17, 2014 5:40 am The reaction of Dr. Reuben Abati, the Media Adviser to President Good luck Jonathan, to the comment on the State of the Nation passed by General Muhammadu Buhari at his Declaration on Wednesday of his Intention to seek the Nomination of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential Ticket for 2015 election in Abuja is impetuous, hogwash and tommyrot. The rather tempestuous and insidious reactions of the PDP, Dr. Toyin Okupe and Dr. Abati to Gen. Buhari’s Statement is a pointer to the fact that what Buhari said is the reality of the state of affairs prevailing in the country under the leadership of President Jonathan. General Buhari said that the Country is currently under the siege of the insurgency of the godless Boko Haram movement that has laid siege in the North East carrying out mindless killings and pillaging towns and Villages. Is this not a fact? What lie did General Buhari tell there? General Buhari told us that the Country‘s highways have been taken over by armed robbers. Is this not true? Kidnappers are on the prowl kidnapping left, right and centre. Is this not true? Presently for the past one week, the former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr. Okey Wali (SAN) is under the custody of a gang of vicious kidnappers! Has he been released? General Buhari said that the Country is insecure. Where is the lie there? 250 girls in a Government Secondary School in Chibok, Bornu State were abducted and taken captive by the satanic Boko Haram since April, 2014? Have they been released? Their abduction is running close to 200 days! General Buhari told us that electricity generation in the country has fallen from about 4,0000 MW in 1999 to a lowly 3,000 MW despite the investment of more than $50 billion by the PDP controlled Federal Government into the Sector. Is this not true? General Buhari said that the educational system of the country has broken down. Is it not a fact that University Teachers last year went on strike for more than six months? Is it not true that Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Teachers in the Country went on strike for nearly one year in 2013? Is it not true that presently all the Federal Government Colleges are under lock and key because of an industrial action by teachers and workers of the Federal Ministry of Education over unpaid allowances for more than one month plus after resumption of Schools about the 13th of September, 2014? Is it not true that the phantom figures from the officialdom and the National Bureau of Statistics, International Monetary Fund and highly compromised rating agencies of tremendous growth rate in the economy and Nigeria being the fastest growing economy in the world is a red herring? Is it not true that the country is continually groaning under the weight of grinding poverty, chronic unemployment, crumbling and poor infrastructures and sliding into the status of a failed state under President Jonathan? So what lie did General Buhari tell Nigerians? General Buhari said that there is chronic and pandemic unemployment rate among the Country’s teeming youth population. Is this not a notorious fact? How many jobs have been created by President Jonathan since he took over on the 6th May, 2010? If jobs have been created why did more than 300,000 young people turn up in recruitment centres in various States in the Country in April, 2014, seeking for placements in the Nigeria Immigration Service for less than 3000 jobs? General Buhari told us that the quality of life has progressively and geometrically degenerated in the Country since 1999. Is this not an incontrovertible fact? Are not more than 68 percent of the Country’s population living under abject and grinding poverty never experienced in the Country for the past one hundred years? General Buhari said that corruption and graft have been institutionalised in the Country under President Jonathan. Is this not an undisputable fact? Did not President Jonathan himself say that stealing and corruption are different? Is it not true recently Nigeria was rated as one of the worst places to live in the world on account of how miserable and abysmally low human development index is? So what lie did General Buhari tell Nigerians? General Buhari promised to restore the values of honour, industry and integrity back to the Country if elected. Is it a lie that the entire value system has totally broken down under President Jonathan. Is it not true that the Presidency under President Jonathan has become synonymous with deceit and dishonourable conduct? Is there honour? Why would the Federal Government embark on exportation of foreign currency to South Africa under the guise of buying arms? Is it not true that President Jonathan has used the weapon of divide and rule to divide and polarize the Country along Religious, Sectional and Ethnic lines? Is it not true that President Jonathan’s government readily fan the embers of division along the country’s fault lines as a convenient tool to divert the Country from his groping leadership? It therefore goes without saying that Dr. Abati’s charge that General Buhari told lies in his statement is the height of grandstanding! Dr. Abati’s diatribe is nothing but a mere farrago of words. Not to worry, Nigerians know better!!! Okoi Obono-Obla
