ABOUT AN OPEN BID AT NEW YORK ANIMAL CARE & CONTROL: JACKIE is a 15 yr old dog languishing in a cage for three days now with severe wounds that may lead to amputation. Some years ago, not too long, then Mayor Bloomberg set up something called the Mayors Alliance and appointed an attorney to head it up. I think it was probably well-meaning in its endeavor. An advertising executive company was hired to list the dogs and cats, also a well-intentioned endeavor. But what happened as the next few years went by was to be a nightmare unseen. The attorney opposed any outside rescues from their alliance to pull animals even as they were slaughtered stating that she could not be sure that outside rescues would be competent. However, the rescues pulling were many times newbies, no 501c3 yet, making mistakes like any new rescue would without direction. But veteran rescuers were still denied pull. Today September 28, 2014, on a Sunday night, there is a dog named Jackie who sits in a cage for days on end with severe injuries and/or illness. Where are the powers that be? Where are the individuals that control NY ACC? If those individuals were doing their job and there were no dead dogs and cats and all were vetted, we could move on to other issues. But they are not. The dogs and cats at NY ACC like many kill pounds across America continue to languish in severe pain and suffering for days before they are either brutally killed without anesthesia against state law or finally pulled by a rescue stretched far too thin. The leadership at New York Animal Care and Control needs to be toppled from the top down. Nathan Winograd himself called it THE THREE FAMILIES OF RESCUE IN NYC (Mayors Alliance, ASPCA & NY ACC) in a radio program some years ago. We will demand an OPEN BID to the contract of animal care and control in NYC foremost because the leadership there has failed them and we cannot accept this any longer. Poor Jackie may need her limbs amputated but no one knows for sure since she is not pulled nor vetted.
