ABOVE ALL ELSE Matthew 6:33 Common English Bible (CEB) 33 Instead, desire first and foremost God’s kingdom and God’s righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33 New Living Translation (NLT) 33 Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. The key words here are first and foremost and above all else. All these things is referring to the basic needs of life--shelter, clothing, and food. What these verses tell me is that if the pursuit of Gods kingdom is truly the #1 priority in life our human needs will be supplied without our being anxious about them. What people usually do is exactly opposite. How many times Ive heard, I just dont have time for prayer and communion with God. I have too many other things that demand my attention. The choice is always left with each of us. There is a very perverse aspect of human existence that continually resists the light of God and this needs to be recognized (see John 3:19). In every possible way our wonderful God woos us to spend time with Him and yet so many, even among those who claim to follow Him, choose to live in darkness, keeping Him on the fringes of life. The Lords table is abundant with heavenly, soul-satisfying morsels. Shall we not make the pursuit of the kingdom of God the center of our life--the absolute highest priority, above and beyond everything else? I appeal to you to make use of what resources you find most helpful to BUILD YOUR FAITH (see Jude 20). The news media constantly bombards us with violence, fear, and every ungodly thing imaginable and the only way we can counteract this is to fill our hearts with Gods Word. As we let the light of God in the darkness of the world disappears. If we allow ourselves to get drawn into the darkness we shall indeed suffer emptiness. This sense of meaninglessness is what dominates our pill driven culture. Take thought, not for the things of this world but for the things of God. Take thought for God and the activity of God. Take thought for the spiritual universe, and keep your conversation in heaven by pondering, meditating, thinking upon the things of God.--Joel Goldsmith, The Invisible Nature of Your Life (A Personal Note: The things I post are often my response to what I observe going on in the world as well as private conversations and messages that people send through email or FB.
