ABZ Statement on ZAF Accident Statement from Fr Frank Bwalya, President of the Alliance for Better Zambia: Alliance for Better Zambia is deeply saddened by the continued loss of life on our roads and now through Zambia Air Force (ZAF) plane crashes. Every life is highly valued whether highly trained or not, young or old and everything should be done to save life. However, we are particularly saddened by the death of ZAF senior officers namely Deputy Commander Major General Muliokela Muliokela and Col. Brian Mweene who died in a plane crash on Monday. Our hearts go out to the families, relatives and friends of the deceased. We join Zambians in praying for them and wishing them God’s consolation at this time of great loss. We wish to reiterate our call to the PF government to take stock of our military planes and get rid of all old and unreliable planes and related equipment. Before deaths were recoded under the PF government warning shots were fired. As ZESCO board chairperson I witnessed how some government officials cheated death in Shiwangandu when a ZAF plane crash-landed as it tried to takeoff after President Sata commissioned the Shiwangandu mini-hydro power station in December 2012. Few months later we heard a report of how a ZAF chopper carrying a senior government official to North-Western province undertook emergency landing in Kabwe after developing a fault. These seemingly isolated incidents should have called for drastic measures to address relevant safety issues to prevent loss of life. As such, we are calling upon government to address this problem with the urgency it demands. zambiareports/2014/05/20/abz-statement-zaf-accident/
