ABZ president Frank Bwalya says: Two senior members of our party who have left to join another opposition party have not spoken ill of my leadership. They have maintained a cordial relationship with me. My conclusion is that they meant what they said about my leadership when they joined. Below is what one of them said. ALLIANCE FOR BETTER ZAMBIA (ABZ) FIRST PRESS CONFERENCE HELD AT CHOMA HOTEL, CHOMA ON THURSDAY 27TH JUNE 2013 MAIDEN SPEECH BY THE PARTY NATIONAL CHAIRPERSON SALUTATION The Vice Chairperson of the Team of Trustees of Alliance for a Better Zambia (ABZ) Ms. Christine Munkombwe, The President of ABZ Fr. Frank Bwalya (FFB), The National Chairperson for Women Ms. Mary Phiri, ABZ Secretary General Comrade Eric Chanda, Distinguished members of the press, Invited guests, President FFB’s Personal Assistant Mr. Emmanuel Chilekwa, ABZ members from various places, Ladies and gentlemen. I wish to begin my maiden speech as National Chairperson of ABZ by thanking God for his kindness to our country. God has given us a beautiful people that love one another. This explains why our country has been a haven of peace and stability not only in our region but the entire world. God has also given us numerous natural resources needed to develop a country and make its people live lives worthy of people created in the image and likeness of God. Today I speak as the first Party National Chairperson of ABZ. This gives me great joy and anticipation. However, I am aware of the huge responsibility that has been placed on my shoulders today. I know that today marks the beginning of a very demanding and challenging journey. This journey is not for the faint hearted but tough people who are prepared to sacrifice their personal comfort for the sake of Zambia. Many of us have convinced ourselves that the Patriotic Front government represents a lost opportunity. An opportunity to set Zambia on a new path that leads to economic prosperity. A missed opportunity to undertake social and political reforms to entrench democratic governance with its tenets of respect for human rights, rule of law, free speech and separation of powers. Our country has lost yet another opportunity to strengthen the fight against corruption. We have lost another golden opportunity to have a modest government and serve funds for projects that would lift our people out of poverty. We have lost an opportunity to collect a lot of money in terms of windfall tax on our copper. We are now on the verge of losing another golden opportunity to have a people driven constitution. Despite this loss, all hope is not lost. We still have an opportunity to change our country. As such, I strongly believe that Alliance for a Better Zambia (ABZ) represents that new hope, the new opportunity to steer our country in the right direction. It is because of this strong belief that I have accepted to be part of the winning team as Party National Chairperson. I have agreed to work with FFB and the rest of the team because these people represent new thinking and new ideas needed to create a new Zambia that we can all be proud of. At this juncture, allow me to thank FFB and our Secretary General Comrade Eric Chanda for inviting me to this party which is spreading like bush fire. One thing I like about these two people is that they are genuine and they want to build a party that would become stronger than those who started it. This explains why they are approaching people of high caliber who can add value to the party. I am sure that these two people are real political magnets and they will attract real metal. Therefore, I am confident that ABZ will attract people of high integrity especially women and youth. I must say that those of us who can tell the direction of political wind know that this party, ABZ will soon grow into a huge movement and will form the next government. Finally, I wish to call upon all Zambians to be united and save our country from collapse due to the mismanagement we have witnessed under the PF-led government. I know that some politicians have tried to divide us on various lines including tribal or regional lines. We should not allow them to succeed. Now is the time for all of us to be united for the sake of mother Zambia. Now is the time to leave our comfort zones and join the struggle for a better Zambia. May I end by thanking everyone who has witnessed this event. God bless you all. DEXTER ZEMBA MOONO ABZ NATIONAL CHAIRPERSON Another one said even more wonderful things. Good night.
