ACCOUNT ON OUR FIRST 100 DAYS IN OFFICE We assumed office on Friday 26th April, 2013 and 4th August 2013 marks our 100th day in office. The journey has not been easy but the Grace of God has seen us through every step of the way and we remain optimistic about the prospects of the coming days. We wish to express our profound gratitude to each and every one of you for your indispensable support. BELOW IS THE SYNOPSIS OF SOME THINGS WE HAVE DONE SO FAR: • Advocacy on the school fees ; Even though the fee structure was approved before we came to office, we relentlessly voiced out our concerns on it and we have successfully secured the following: 50% part payment option for both AFUF and RFUF even though management earlier gave a directive on only full fee payment. The University also intends expanding the Students Financial Aid program in access and coverage. • Suspension of the meal plan which was to begin from this Academic year. • We successfully advocated for the refurbishment of our lecture halls. JQB is under massive renovation. Old fans are being replaced, new public address systems are under installation and lightening too is being improved. • The office of the Pro-VC has begun a probe into the performance of students in the UGRC’s because the SRC has petitioned the office on the generic poor performance of students in the UGRC. Steps have been taken to curtail this problem. • We have successfully advocated for the early release of results so if your results are delayed 10weeks after writing the said paper, please report to the SRC. • We partnered with the YOUTH ENHANCEMENT INTERNATIONAL to introduce the Ghana Students Industrial Attachment Program (GSIAP) • We successfully organized and instituted the ASOMDWEE LECTURE in memory of the late President Mills • We have launched “the VOICE OF LEGON” – a monthly newsletter that will be distributed to students for free. • We are about 90% through with our SRC website which will be launched on Monday, 12th August, 2013. The website is ugsrc • We have regulated operations at the Night Market and bush canteen and food vendors would be giving out disposable cutlery to students who buy food. Also, the Bush Canteen will be closed for a month to undergo massive renovation. • We have established a compliant and feedback desk at the SRC UNION BUILDING to aid students address their registration challenges. • We SUCCESSFULLY negotiated for the decent places of worship for our Christian denominations. • We paid a courtesy call on Dr K.B Asante on July 1 as part of the republic day celebrations. • We visited final year students of the University of Ghana Staff Basic School as part of our corporate social responsibility to motivate them and give them UG branded pens to write their B.E.C.E. We have adopted the school as our model school. • WE ARE COUNTING ON YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND PRAYERS AS WE CONTINUE WORKING FOR YOU.
