ACE CAFE T3 RACING REPORT FROM DONINGTON Guiver crashes at Craner Curves Rob Guiver recorded his first DNF of the race season yesterday at Donington Park after slipping on oil from another bike. It was what Guiver described as “one of those weekends”. From start to finish there had been problems. Practice had been wet and there was fuel on the track. In qualifying the team discovered an oil leak on Guiver’s bike and he only made it out for two laps. Despite starting last on the grid for race one, from then on it seemed that things were looking up. Guiver made great progress in Race 1, just narrowly missing out on third in the Cup class, and qualifying 18th for Race 2. Race 2 was turning out to be a great battle. On lap one, Bjorn Estment managed to overtake Guiver and they were fighting for position throughout the race. The two riders traded places eight times in the 15 laps of the race. Guiver commented: “It was frustrating because I felt we could catch the others but we kept holding each other up.” It was on lap 14 that Deane Brown came down at the Craner Curves. By now Guiver was up to 15th and just 0.07 seconds behind Estment. On the following lap Glen Irwin went down at the same place and Guiver went down there soon after. He told us: “I went slightly off the racing line on that lap and that’s when I caught the oil. It’s really frustrating but we have to drop three rounds out of twelve so it’s looking like this might be one of them!” Team manager Ricky Chadwick commented: “This is racing but it is really frustrating when it’s not your fault. Luckily the bike isn’t too badly damaged and Rob’s fine too.” The race was red flagged at lap 14. Fortunately he still has a 36 point lead over Estment in the championship. The team will be working hard to get the bike ready for Assen in 11 days. Guiver will be qualifying at 10.15 on Saturday 21st September and his first race will be at 15.55.
