ACTION ALERT. Universal Background Check Threat in Harrisburg The antis are pushing Universal Background Checks in Harrisburg. The PA legislators below need to be encouraged to NOT support HB 1010 (or any amendments that include universal background checks). Speed dial through them. They affect your rights even if they are not your legislator. You can consider starting off this way with them: Hello Representative___. I am calling you to oppose HB 1010 on Universal Background checks. I might not live in you district but I am a Pennsylvanian, and your decision on this will affect me and all Pennsylvanians……” Then go on to state reasons you oppose Universal Background Checks. Examples: • We have had record of sale in PA for 80 years • We have background checks on all handguns sales (dealer and private) and all dealer rifle sales • There are enough federal and state laws in place to address the issue, particularly the issue with “straw purchases” which is the biggest issue. • The problem is lack of enforcement. According to DOJ statistics, of the 72,000 people turned down in 2010, there were only 44 prosecutions. • Universal Background checks is one incremental step for the antis plan toward registration and confiscation.
