ADMIN NICS RANT: Hello everybody, Id like to take a minute of your time to talk to you about bandwagons. If you are a part of any basketball-based groups, you will constantly see posts/comments/memes about bandwagons and about how bad they are. While the idea of bandwagons is frustrating, people seem to have a hard time understanding some of the reasons why the Heat or other good teams have more fans than other teams. I will proceed to explain what I mean: 1. Who are your favorite players? Chances are one of Lebron James, Kevin Durant, Chris Paul or Kobe Bryant are on that list, and no one like Jannero Pargo or Quincy Pondexter are. Fans are much more likely to be fans of good players, than of nobodies, which makes sense. So if Lebron James is your favorite player, then you will be a fan of whatever team he is on. Correct? And most likely, whatever team he is on will be good, so therefore, if you are a fan of Lebron James, then you are considered to be a bandwagon, even though you are just supporting your favorite player. My personal example: Chris Paul is one of my favorite players, so I will like whatever team he is on (they wont be my favorite team, but most likely top 5). I was always somewhat fond of the Clippers, but when CP3 went on their team, I started to become more of a fan of them. Obviously, the Clippers became a better team with Chris Paul, so it could give someone the misunderstanding that I was somewhat of a bandwagon, but really I was just supporting one of my favorite players . 2. Good teams are likeable, and bad teams arent. This reason is harder to explain, so I will jump straight to my personal example: When Derrick Rose went down with an injury, and the Bulls seemed hopeless, they continued to battle game through game and they were able to win more games then anyone thought they would and advance to the second round of the playoffs. They were an inspiring team, who after injury and injury were able to continue and compete through their hustle and toughness. You cant hate that. I was always fine with the Bulls, but I started to like them during that season even more (partly because they hated Nate Robinson who is my Favorite of all time). So although the Bulls were doing well, people are inclined to like teams who are inspiring, and inspiring teams are generally pretty good. 3. People like to find memes that say If you werent a fan who struggled through these guys *pic of a teams players who did bad*, then you cant be a fan of these guys *pic of players on the same team a few years later except they are good now* then feel pretty good with themselves. Well that logic is ridiculously flawed. Everybody has to start being a fan at some point, who are you to criticize new fans? You were a new fan at one point, and here you are criticizing people for being new fans. For some younger people, it is physically impossible to have been fans of the Heat in the 90s, so should they just not be fans of the NBA because they are too young? With that logic, the NBA will die out in 50 years because they didnt allow anyone born after 1990 to become a fan, leaving nobody alive being able to be a fan of the NBA. I know that is extreme, but its true. If someone who is born and raised in Miami becomes interested in basketball, should he have to wait for the Heat to suck to become a fan (which will be a while)? No, that is ridiculous. For those of you who read everything that I wrote, I hope you understood the point I was going to get across. Do you guys agree with me? Why or why not? #Nic Also, I know I will get comments saying that I am just a bandwagon who is trying to defend themselves, so I have ranked my top 5 favorite and top 5 least favorite so you guys can see. My top 5 favorite *would be the Sonics at 1*: 1. Portland Trailblazers 2. Chicago Bulls 3. Los Angeles Clippers 4. Boston Celtics 5. Golden State Warriors My top 5 LEAST favorite teams: 1. OKC Thunder 2. Los Angeles Lakers 3. Indiana Pacers 4. Sacramento Kings 5. Washington Wizards
