* ADOPTABLE * Age: 16 months Gender: Male Breed: Siberian Husky Kids: Older or none Cats: Yes Dogs: Yes Rio means river in Spanish and if Rio was a real river, he would a rushing river with rapids designed for fun and adventure! Originally found as a stray up north at 11 months and sent to a shelter, this young male was taken in by the rescue as a scrawny, sickly boy in need of stability, training and tasty food! Rio has been shifted around several times during his stay with the rescue due to differing reasons including one home not being able to handle his behaviours that need to be strongly kept under wraps. Rio is a sweet, happy and bouncy boy, now at the wonderfully terrible adolescent stage of 16 months. He attends dog daycare to burn off his energy and likes lots of attention from his people. Although Rio has lived with a child, we would prefer him to go to a home with older or no children. He currently lives with 2 huskies and 2 kitties and is doing great with all of them. Rio is innately a happy go lucky boy, always up for pets and snuggles and wanting to interact. The issues that potential adopters need to be aware of are food aggression and some dominance that when challenged improperly could result in a bite. Rio is working on these issues but we are aware, these are not quick to fix so Rio will be needing a savvy and committed home that is comfortable working with him and a trainer/behaviourist to help him be the super fun loving guy he usually is! Rio is now focussing on his training and boy does he love to work although he has a really hard time sitting still for very long! If you are up for a husky challenge, dont let his quirks scare you off, he really is a great dog, happy to hike, bike, run and cuddle. Rio loves loves loves his crate. This is his den where he eats and hoards his favourite toys. If he disappears, you can be sure he is probably chillin in his crate. Rio loves to play tug and routinely tries to shake his stuffed chicken to death. While Rio is ok with cats and has zero interest in them, if you are a live chicken, youd better cross the road in a hurry, Rio has prey drive towards birds! Once he finally has permanent stability and a firm leader we are eager to see how bright Rio can shine. If you know the husky breed (and you should if you are applying for this particular boy!) we would rate him as a higher energy husky. There are some mellow ones out there, Rio is not one of them!
