ADOPTION PROCESS - The Ins and Outs on What You Need To Know: As many of you are aware, Lake Haven recently pulled 58+ dogs from a breeder. We operate 100% by volunteers and 100% by donations. We do not have paid staff and we all have day jobs so we do what we can when we have time. With an influx of this magnitude, the intake, vetting, grooming, fostering, medicating, transporting, fielding emergencies, phone calls, applications and so much more, takes a tremendous amount of time and energy. Many of us are doing this up to 10-12 hours a day and then some. If you are interested in adopting, the application process is going to take at least two weeks for us to review and follow up on each application so PLEASE BE PATIENT with us during this time. We are receiving at least 150+ applications each 8 hour period. We are working as quickly as we can to process this information. Here is the low-down as to what YOU need to do to streamline your application: 1-Complete an online application at this link: lakehavenrescue.org/preap.htm 2-Make sure you contact your vet to authorize the release of information to Lake Haven. If you have an incomplete application (no phone # of vet or you did not call to release information) your application will not be reviewed further. 3-It is a MANDATE that anyone interested in adopting a Pixie dog MUST have a fenced yard. The reason for this is that seven of these dogs, from a previous pull from the same breeder, have broke their lead or leash, two were hit by a car and one is still at large. There are no IFS, ANDS or BUTs about this request. 4-Adoption fee for a Pixie dog is $250. This includes their spay or neuter, rabies, and they will be up to date on shots. Some of the older dogs have had to have a dental and some have had to have nasal surgery. So if you think Lake Haven makes any money on these wee ones, I hate to tell you we dont - never do either. 5-It may take up to two weeks for you to hear back about your application. If you are approved, you will receive an email indicating that and we will then direct you to the next step. Please do not call the shelter to ask the process of your application. We do not have a paid staff person to answer the phone and our time is mainly spent medicating, cleaning, vetting, and transporting the dogs to and from the vet. We thank everyone for their interest in these wee ones and we will do our very best in moving the process along as quickly as we can. Thank you for your patience and understanding!
