ADVICE NEEDED post# h006 My son is 7 years old and has ADHD. He has always been very oral. I thought he would outgrow this, but he hasnt. He puts everything in his mouth! Scissors, pencils, remote controls, toys, everything. He chews holes in the sleeves of his shirts and the fingers of his gloves. He is on Adderall. I have researched to find a correlation between the ADHD and the oral fixation, but I havent had much luck. I attributed it to my being a nail-biter and him seeing me put my fingers in my mouth, but his nails are the one thing he DOESNT chew! I am a single mom, and his father and I have a terrible, very stressful relationship. We have been split up since my son was 15 months old. I will talk to his psychologist about the behavior possibly being a stress outlet. Any advice? Any of your children exhibit these behaviors? Is it something I need to worry about and try to fix?
