AEC - Motivational quotes: Do they work? Kevin Kruse, leadership and employee engagement author and regular contributor to Forbes, suggests that motivational quotes “have the power to get us through a bad week and can even give us the courage to pursue our life’s dreams.” In his book, 4 Keys to Happiness and Fulfilment at Work, he shares his research into how employees can become motivated in the workplace. “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.” ~ Steve Jobs “Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value.” ~ Albert Einstein “If you can dream it, you can do it.” ~ Walt Disney Do any of these quotes resonate with you? Would you be more likely to work harder during a work day after reading one of these quotes? Kruse says yes. Although we all use different ways to motivate ourselves, Kruse believes that affirmations in the form of inspirational quotes can be a great technique to up our day-to-day motivation. Kruse states that the value of motivational quotes lies in reminding us about goals and our aspirations and making them seem more achievable through visualising them. A motivational poster on your office wall, or on a post-it on your computer screen, can serve as a useful reminder to keep striving to be the person you want to be. The great thing about quotes, Kruse believes, is that they are short and concise – easily written down and remembered. Positive affirmations can help you to think more positively about a work task or your career, and are particularly useful when you feel discouraged, either for a short-term pick-me-up or to encourage a long-term desire to change some aspect of your life.
