AFGHAN LABYRINTH: THE PERSPECTIVES OF DEVELOPMENT OF WIDER CENTRAL ASIA AFTER 2014 Edited by Andrey Kazantsev SUMMARY At present the whole world is paying much attention to Afghanistan due to withdrawal of ISAF forces in 2014. For Russia evolution of Afghan situation is especially important because this country guarantees security of some of Afghanistan’s Central Asian neighbors (Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan) within Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). Withdrawal of the forces of international coalition makes Russia even more important actor from the point of view of Moscow’s assistance to stability in Afghanistan and its neighborhood. This collection of articles represents the impact of the Institute of International Studies (IMI) of MGIMO-University of Russia’s Foreign ministry and, more concretely, Analytical center of IMI to international efforts directed at Afghanistan’s stabilization. During 2013 our Institute has actively participated in the work of Analytical Association of CSTO. This work has not only scholarly, but also big practical value. In 2013 Analytical Association of CSTO with our active assistance has conducted a series of seminars devoted to analysis and prognosis of the situation in Afghanistan (including one in IMI MGIMO and one in Astana, in the Kazakh Institute of Strategic Studies under the President of Kazakhstan). This collection of articles represents the results of this work. This collection is a specialized issue of a new periodical scholarly journal – a Yearbook of IMI MGIMO. mgimo.ru/news/issues/document249483.phtml mgimo.ru/files2/y03_2014/249483/ejegodnik_2_4_2013.pdf
