AGED VETERAN OF WAR IS DEAD - Henry Crane, 93, of Fort Plain Dies After Few Weeks Illness FORT PLAIN, Dec. 29, 1929 — Henry Crane, 93, one of the three veterans of the Civil War, who turned out for the annual Memorial Day services of 1929 answered the final call Sunday morning. He had been ill for several weeks. Mr. Crane was born in Three Rrvers, Jefferson county, on August 28, 1836. the son of Josiah and Lany Dillenbeck Crane. While a young man, his family moved to Fort Plain. At the outbreak of the Civil War, he enlisted as a member of Co. E.,o. E., 18th New York Volunteers. After making a splendid record during the war, he received his honorable discharge and returned to his home in the village. He was commander and quartermaster of Klock Post, O. A. R. Crane is exceptionally well known In the village and has a large number of frlenda who will regret to learn of his passing. For a number of years he has been been collector of the village and town. Four years ago he ran on an independent ticket, defeating his opponents on the Republican and Democrat tickets. Besides his interest in the G. A. R. post, he was actively engaged in work in other lodges. He held the offices of Tiler in the Fort Plain Masonic lodge and Sentinel in the Fort Plain Order of Eastern Star for a periodof more than 25 years. The survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Silas Teeter, of Little Falls; Mrs. Edgar Nestle, of Brookmans Corners; Mrs. Jason Bowman, of Fort Plain, and several nieces and nephews. A prayer service will be held at the home Tuesday afternoon at 3. The funeral service and the Masonic ritual will be carried out In the Catherine Nellie chapel at 3:30. Rev. C R. Hamilton, pastor of the Fort Plain Baptist church will officiate. Interment will be made In the Fort Plain cemetery. Burial: Fort Plain Cemetery Fort Plain Montgomery County New York, USA
