AIPS Announcements 1) AIPS CURRENTLY HAS TRAVEL AWARDS!! a) Grant for domestic U.S. or Canada travel for a conference or invited lecture: Visit the AIPS Travel Grant website for additional details on eligibility and the online application form. b) Grant for international travel to Pakistan for a conference or invited lecture: • Must be affiliated with a US Academic Institution • Must be an AIPS Individual Member or be affiliated with an AIPS Institutional Member • Must complete the AIPS online application form c) Grant to bring a Pakistani scholar to the US for a conference or invited lecture: Faculty members of AIPS Member Institutions are invited to submit applications to bring a Pakistani scholar to the US for a conference or invited lecture. The Deadline for both applications is: January 1, 2015. Short-Term Fellowship: AIPS is delighted to announce another round of Short-Term Fellowships is now open for applications! **Please note that due to the grant deadline, travel must be completed or nearly completed by August 31st, 2015. Long-Term Fellowship: Applications are invited for research fellowships to be undertaken at the Junior (pre-doctoral) or Senior (post-doctoral) level for projects lasting two to nine months. *New changes to the Fellowship recommendation letter requirements! 1. Post-doctoral applicants are required to submit just one letter of recommendation. Post-doctoral applicants are not required to submit their transcript(s) 2. Pre-doctoral applicants are required to submit two letters of recommendation; one letter must be from their dissertation advisor. In addition, pre-doctoral applicants must submit their transcript(s). ** Please note that you are still able to upload three (3) letter letters of recommendations on your application, but are only required to include the above requirements. Accredited U.S. four-year colleges and universities meeting the provisions described in Internal Revenue Code section 26 USC 501(c)(3) may submit proposals to pursue institutional or departmental objectives in partnership with National College of Arts (NCA)- Lahore. This project will contribute to the learning and teaching of Film & Television, and enhance the impact of the institution through curriculum development, collaborative research, long distance teaching (via Internet/DVC), sharing of resources, professional development for faculty, and faculty and student exchanges. Job Announcement Janet Wright Ketcham 1953 Professorship in Middle East Studies The Program in Middle East Studies at Smith College invites applications from senior scholars to serve as the inaugural occupant of the Janet Wright Ketcham 53 Chair in Middle East Studies, beginning July 2015. This appointment will be at the associate or full professor level with tenure. We seek a distinguished scholar of the Middle East with a focus on issues in the contemporary Arab world. Scholarly proficiency in Arabic is required; knowledge of other regional languages is desirable. Candidates for this appointment must have a track record of intellectual leadership in the field and a passion for undergraduate teaching. Applications are encouraged from broadly trained scholars of the region, as well as those with comparative training in Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan, Palestine, and/or Turkey. The successful candidate will be a scholar-teacher trained in the history, economics, politics, societies, and/or cultures of the region, and will be able to teach across disciplines. The successful candidate will be expected to offer both undergraduate seminars in her/his fields of specialization and intermediate courses that address the contemporary geopolitical and cultural landscape of the Middle East in a global context, and to contribute to the development of a broad interdisciplinary introduction to Middle Eastern Studies. We are particularly interested in applicants whose specializations enhance the existing strengths of our Program in Middle East Studies (smith.edu/mes). Tenured faculty at Smith teach two courses each semester, interact with students in small classes, and actively advise independent undergraduate research.
