AIR POWER DISCUSSION ANSWER Are Christians Supposed To Settle Their Disputes In Church Rather Than In Court? The bible gives guidelines on how to handle disputes. I want us to examine a scripture which deals with this issue. Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican. Matthew 18:15-17 The first thing I want you to notice is that this scripture talks about how to resolve disputes between two Christians or brothers; if thy brother shall trespass against thee not an unbeliever but a Christian. The second thing is, disputes between brothers or fellow Christians are supposed to be settled with the following procedure: First speak to the person privately. If this does not work, get someone to mediate between the two of you. If this too does not work, take it to the church for the leaders or pastors to resolve it. This is because Gods standard of judgment is different from the worlds standard. If this does not work, then resolve it like how unbelievers resolve their issue; take it to court. Finally, If the person in question is not a brother or fellow believer you can feel free to take him directly to court without going through this conflict resolution format. This is because an unbeliever may not respect the authority of the church and may have a different standard of judgment. The law courts may be the only common ground : let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.
