AITEC BANKING CONFERENCE TO BOOST INTEGRATED FINANCIAL SERVICES IN THE COMESA REGION The seventh annual AITEC Banking & Mobile Banking COMESA conference will take place over 11-12 September and seeks to make the rapidly dynamic financial services sector in the region in a bid to make it more competitive globally. The two-day conference provides a valuable educational forum for the financial services sector, updating corporate executives and information systems managers on latest international developments in payment technologies, best practices in IT project deployment, and latest trends in customer service delivery. “Most of the banking and financial systems in the region are still tied into the timeworn banking paradigm, they are yet to fully embrace and tap into the fast changing financial systems that characterize the financial systems in the more developed economies; while appreciating the progress made by our institutions, it is important to find ways we can leverage our systems to make them competitive in the region and the rest of the world.” said Sean Moroney, AITEC Chairman, and conference director. Also noting the pervasive power of mobile technology and the patent influence of broadband connectivity in commerce and the finance sector, the AITEC Banking & Mobile Banking COMESA conference will also feature sessions on keeping pace with a changing mobile payments industry and business models for mobile payments in competitive markets “It is an exciting time in this continent; there are a multitude of opportunities in the African mobile money industry at the moment and the same time, more developed mobile money markets here in Africa such as South Africa and Kenya are seeing exciting, and increasingly sophisticated services emerging, we are hoping to use this conference to generate new ideas to keep the momentum going,” said the AITEC Chairman. The conference will also present a platform through which key stakeholders in the COMESA region can deliberate on strategies to expand into the in cross-border operations. “All senior bankers now need to think regionally rather than nationally in the systems the set up and the services they provide. Plans are underway to establish the COMESA Business Council which will seek to boost cross-border trade among financial institutions,” Sean concluded.
