AKOKO EDO REFORMERS NETWORK Etsakos Should Wait for Their Turn, Senator Domingos Associate, As Akoko Edo Leaders Boycott Senator’s Meeting In what looks like a vote of no confidence, prominent leaders from Senator Domingo Obendes local government area of Akoko Edo, weekend in Benin City shun an Elders Forum meeting of the All Progressive Congress (APC) scheduled to hold in his residence. Reports had it that the meeting was boycotted by 90% of the leaders of the local government, such as Chief Bayo Adams, Chief Joseph Arogundade, Chief John Bello, Capt. Stephen Amineshi, Hon. L. P Ologun, Chief J. A Alao, Mr. Jolly Ashore, Chief J. B Ayeni, Mr. E. O Omozuafo, Deacon Veras Ashefor, Chief A. Adesunloye, House of Representatives member representing the local government area, Comrade Peter Akpatason, members of the State House of Assembly in constituency one and two, Hon. Dele Oloruntoba and Alh. Kabiru Adjoto, Commissioner for Arts and Culture, Anena Jemitola, Dr. Olushegun Oseh, Hon. Anselm Agbabi, Mr. Olu Dania, among others. It was also gathered that in an invitation, the Secretary of the Elderss Council, Mr. Chris Dirisu stated that, you are cordially invited to attend the hosting of Akoko Edo local government APC Elders Forum (Legislators, Hon. Chairman, and Hon. Commissioner) inclusive by the Distinguished Senator Domingo Obende at his Benin residence and attendance is strictly by invitation. In what turned out to suggest that all was not well at the home-front with the second term political ambition of Senator Obende was the scanty representation of members of the Forum such as Mr. Folorunsho Akerejola, Samuel Obaro, Bayo Adams, Augustine Amune, and Amore Gomina. However, the situation seems worsened by the agitation for the ticket by the Etsako extraction of Edo North Senatorial District. But, an associate of the Senator from Akoko Edo local government area yesterday warned those agitating from Etsako axis to wait for their turn as they cannot have the sitting Governor, Adams Oshiomhole and the Senator. Daily Independent also learnt a member of the House of Representatives, Engr. Abubakar Momoh from Etsako axis of the Senatorial District has already declared interest and promises to unseat the incumbent, Senator Domingo Obende. He is widely believed to be a threat to the Senator since the Etsakos boasts of numerical strength and political big wigs with influence including the sitting Governor. But, Mr. Dayo Okomayin who spoke to our reporter on phone in support of the Senator dismissed the report saying we are not spectators in the party. We are not here to clap our hands for the Etsakos. Etsakos have had it twice and Owan once. Now that it is Akoko Edos turn, they think they can arm twist us to it. They should wait for their turn. There must be fair play in this game. There must be justice and equity in the distribution of elective offices. The sitting Governor is from Etsako, the majority leader of the House of Asembly is also from Etsako, the Chief of Staff to the President is from Etsako, the PDP state chairman is from Etsako, Oshiomholes major appointments and key positions were given to Etsako sons and daughters including and not limited to SUBEB and revenue board. I understand that an Etsako man is also interest in the Deputy Governorship ticket after the expiration of the Governor. The question one would ask them is, how justifiable does it sound for an Etsako man to be the Senator and also clinch the governorship running mate ticket just after a two term tenure as governor? I implore you to investigate, across political divide, the Etsakos are in charge. Our Senator is yet to complete a tenure, an Etsako man is already gallivanting everywhere campaigning for a non-vacant seat and engaging in all subversive means to oust him. I want to believe that if we must remain together as one senatorial district, this gang up against the Akoko Edo man must stop and let the Senator be returned. According to Dayo, the Senator has performed creditably well and the records are there for verification. He listed the Senators achievements to include sponsorship and co-sponsorship of at least 14 bills in the fourth Senate, creation and procurement of employment and various projects across the six local government areas that make up the district. Meanwhile, the Senator may also face another hurdle, if the endorsement of the Secretary to Edo State Government, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere by leaders of Owan West and Owan East is anything to go by. The odds favor him, Barrister Richard Ofenmu said at the weekend. According to Ofenmu, Edo state cannot afford to be on the back seat any longer in Abuja. We have a personality like Professor Julius Ihonvbere with a wealth of connection, experience, and integrity who has been endorsed by the leaders of Owan West and Owan East local government areas to represent the senatorial district in the senate with the support of the Etsakos.
