ALDI development application approved Dubbo City Council has approved a $4.25 million development application (DA) from ALDI Australia to establish a food store in Dubbo with a gross floor area of 1857 square metres and a 120-space car park. The supermarket will be located at the eastern end of Talbragar Street and will trade from 7am to 9pm seven days per week. Mayor of Dubbo Councillor Mathew Dickerson said it was fantastic to see the DA approved. "ALDI had to overcome long-haul transport logistics by engaging third party operators and source the right parcel of land to commit to a store in Dubbo," he said. "This is very exciting for the City and the region. It shows that ALDI was willing to overcome hurdles to harness the potential it saw in Dubbo’s importance as a regional service centre." Cr Dickerson said he, past mayors, and senior Council staff had been in discussions with ALDI for several years, including meetings in Sydney and Dubbo. When ALDI lodged its DA with Council in April 2013, Cr Dickerson said it demonstrated a huge vote of confidence in Dubbo and the region’s general economy. “It was also a tick of approval for the Dubbo Local Environmental Plan 2011. The land in Talbragar Street was rezoned during that process specifically with a view to encourage large footprint retail operations in the centre of the City. I spoke at the time about the development opportunities this would create in Dubbo," he said. “I am happy to now welcome ALDI to the Dubbo business landscape."
