ALEC is real (Parent): For those of you not familiar with the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) they are in fact a very real behind doors think tank that has been around for decades. They have written legislation that is undermining public education in the US including the Colorado Innovation Act that Douglas County parents and comminuty members oppose because of its ultimate intent to privatize the school system. We are not the only ones unhappy with ALEC model legislation. It is being fought across the country. Here is a recent update: We did it. Yesterday, after months of pressure and the signatures of nearly 115,000 people, Google announced it was ending its support for the American Legislative Exchange Council. This is not just a victory for us, but for the millions of Americans whose lives are made more difficult by ALECs anti-environment, anti-education and anti-worker agenda. Our voices are being heard - Googles exit followed quickly on the heels of Microsofts departure from the group less than a month ago. Now its time for Facebook to join them. Please, help us turn up the pressure on Facebook by telling them to leave ALEC - today! Across the country, people are pushing back against backroom deals and pay-to-play politics. They know that ALEC and the crooked politicians they work with have no place in our state legislatures. With your help, weve shone a light on ALECs greed and power grabs. Thats why more than 90 corporations and 400 state legislators across the country have pulled their support from ALEC in just the past few years.
