ALFALFA : Had to make a trip to Atwoods today for small supplies. As I walked by the Alfalfa wafting near the back, I have to admit, I was smitten. Alfalfa has a full, rich and extremely distinctive smell. While it is still in the field all baled up and ready to load, it is exciting. Especially so when there is no threat of rain. My grandson was with me and snapped the picture. When I placed my hands on the bales and pushed my face close to the ALFALFA( is a legume hay) .... I was in my childhood for a moment. There are two common types of hay- legumes and grass. The Timothy Hay is a grass hay where Alfalfa is a legume hay. Next to the Alfalfa on the left is some pretty straw (ok functional,, I once made an igloo and pretended I was in Alaska) . .... and the photi of the barefoot little bruised up legs on the pouty face is your very own Prairie Daughter (aka Sue Ellen Trout)
