ALL COUNTY MINOR HURLING LEAGUE ROUND 5 SEAN STINSONS V MAC UILIN This latest round of the minor league was played a couple of days before a mc mullan cup semi final which resulted in our boys taking to the field with no fewer than eight or nine players who would usually start missing so this was always goin to be a tough contest but not something that the lads who took to the field couldnt achieve if thry put their mind to it. The game got underway and sean stinsons found the back of the net in the fifth minute it was to be a further six minutes before our boys got on the scoreboard when saul grabbed a point which was cancelled out two minutes later to put three between the two teams again. Saul hit back again a minute later with another point only for sean stinsons to go right up the pitch and bag another goal which the added a point to two minutes later and they now had a six point lead. This was reduced to four points in the nineteenth and twentieth minutes when saul and paddy mc henry got a point each. In the last seven minutes of the half sean stinsons scored a further goal and three points without reply to give them a healthy ten point lead at the break. So at the end of a first half which saw our boys more concerned with feeling sorry for themselves and not on their hurling and with some of the older boys not leading by example and getting on the younger boys case rather than encouraging them the writing really looked on the wall with the game only half played. HALF TIME SEAN STINSONS 3-05 MAC UILIN 0-04 The second half started the same way that the first ended with the young ahoghill men getting three points without response to put them in a commanding position but within thirty seconds of the third point going over saul cancelled all three out by scoring a fine individual goal which he added a point to a minute later from a free. Two minutes later and the lead was back to ten after another stinsons point. In the thirty ninth minute saul got another point and a minute later he went on a run a fired low vut the keeper saved and eoin mc caughan was on hand to fire the rebound to the net the lead was now down to six and our boys were starting to play as we know they can but the stinsons came back strong firing a goal and point of their own to make the deficit ten again. In the next eight minutes our boys really got on top firing two goals both from butsy one of which was a twenty one yard free and three points two of them frees from saul and one from diarmaid who had just been introduced to the game without reply to leave the teams just a point apart with four minutes to play but the lads just fell short of a great comeback when stinsons got the last two scores of the game a point in the fifty seventh minute and a soft goal with the lasr puck of the game. Much improved second half from our boys just a pity they didnt play like that for sixty mins and the result could have been different. Best pergormers on the night were butsy skelly saul jimmy and ronan lavelle.
