*** ALL-INCLUSIVE WORLD CUP WATCH PARTY THREAD *** There have been a lot of questions about the watch parties at Power & Light. Hopefully, this answers a lot of questions for folks. LETS KEEP ALL THE QUESTIONS HERE AS TO NOT CROWD UP THE PAGE. This is the official press release that you will see on the Power & Light website as well as Sporting KCs website: Summer in the Soccer Capital, presented by Sprint, will kick off with Kansas Citys official 2014 FIFA World Cup watch parties hosted at KC Live! in the Power & Light District. Beginning with the opening match on June 12 and continuing through the World Cup final on July 13, all 64 matches will be shown live on Kansas Citys largest outdoor video screen in the center of the KC Live! Block, as well as screens in surrounding bars including Mc,Faddens Sports Saloon, Johnnys Tavern, Tengo Sed Cantina, The Dubliner, Pizza Bar, Gordon Biersch Brewery, Bar Louie and more. Admission to the KC Live! Block for Summer in the Soccer Capital will be free for all ages. Food and drink specials will be available for supporters. Additional programming, including VIP opportunities, will be provided for all United States Mens National Team matches at the 2014 FIFA World Cup: Monday, June 16: United States vs. Ghana at 5 p.m. CT Sunday, June 22: United States vs. Portugal at 5 p.m. CT Thursday, June 26: United States vs. Germany at 11 a.m. CT More than 35,000 fans attended the 2010 FIFA World Cup watch parties at the KC Power & Light District -- including a standing-room only crowd of 12,000 for the Round of 16 match between the U.S. and Ghana – making it one of the largest outdoor FIFA World Cup viewing parties in the United States. I will add to this and try to answer a few more questions Ive seen: 1. Yes, kids are allowed in Johnnys Tavern as well as all the other bars/restaurants since all USMNT matches are early start-times. If you want to take your kids down there for a match that starts later in the day on a Friday or Saturday night, just be aware that anything past 8 p.m. might not be doable. The Japan/Ivory Coast match for example, starts at 8 p.m. CST on Saturday. The living room at P&L might be okay, but the bars probably wont be. 2. If you want to take lawn chairs down to the P&L block, they wont let you for the U.S. games. However, if it were me, and I was going down there Tuesday morning for the Belgium/Algeria match, Id try it. If they make you take them back to your car, then you take them back to your car. 3. They wont let you in with water, but I bet sunscreen is fine. I would suggest just applying sunscreen before you head out just in case. 4. There have been questions about whether the Cauldron will be hosting a watch party at the Dubliner. While most Cauldron members are also USMNT supporters, you will find most of us crammed into Johnnys with the Outlaws. However, feel free to head over to the Dubliner if every other place is too packed. I have no knowledge of this, but I would bet theyll have specials as well. If the Cauldron does decide to do something last minute, well let you know. If Power & Light aint yo thang, VisitKC has a write-up that suggests a few more options. blog.visitkc/2014/06/03/battle-for-the-usa-world-cup-watch-parties-in-kansas-city/
