ALL SOUTHSIDE PARENTS: If your child plays sports, then keep reading. Lakeridge must decide whether to play in the OSAA 6A classification (large schools with student populations over 1260) for the next four (4) years or drop to the 5A designation (student populations between 710 and 1259). The current population of Lakeridge is roughly 1100 students. Unfortunately, the Lakeridge leadership team was UNABLE TO MAKE A DECISION and is asking the Board and the Superintendant to make the decision for them. Recall that the current Board (until June 30) has a NORTH SIDE BIAS comprised of Wendland, Zebrowski, and Brown, and leaves just Barman and Oelrich to represent Lakeridge. LO High School has made it clear that they WANT TO PLAY in the 6A classification. The decision will made at the Board meeting on MONDAY, JUNE 17. The meeting will be held at the Administration Building on the LO High School Campus at 6:00 PM. IF YOU WANT TO BE HEARD, THEN STAND UP AND TESTIFY. USE YOUR THREE MINUTES TO MAKE A CLEAR AND CONCISE ARGUMENT FOLLOWED BY A DEFINITIVE RECOMMENDATION. This classification decision has a duration of four (4) years. Thus graduating 6th graders that expect to play HIGH SCHOOL sports will be affected by this decision for their first two years at Lakeridge. With two recent 6A championships (Boys Lacrosse and Girls Track), Lakeridge has proven that it is both COMPETITIVE and DOMINANT when it comes to competing with the larger schools. If you want your child playing sports against the most challenging competition, then the 6A classification is the right choice. Supporting documents provided in the Board meeting packet show that more athletes are recruited from 6A sports programs than from 5A programs. In addition, 10 of 16 (59%) Lakeridge coaches prefer to play in the 6A classification. To me, the choice to play in 6A is a no-brainer.
