ALOR SETAR, Feb 13 (Bernama) -- The Kedah Umno Youth has requested the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate PAS logging investment in Papua New Guinea for alleged fraud. Its chief, Datuk Shaiful Hazizy Zainol Abidin said initiating the investigation into the opposition partys logging investment overseas was imperative to determine whether there was abuse during the reign of the late Tan Sri Azizan Abdul Razaks administration as menteri besar. He said the state Umno Youths aim in meeting with the MACC was to take up the gauntlet as Kedah PAS Commissioner Datuk Mahfuz Omar had challenged the current state government and Umno to unearth any abuse during Azizans reign. In 2012, the Kedah Gerakan Youth had lodged a report on that issue (Papua New Guinea investment) but it remains under investigation. So, we are now requesting MACC to take immediate action on the investment which incurred losses amounting to RM13.49 million, he told reporters at the state MACC headquarters here Thursday. On Oct 18, 2012, the Kedah Gerakan Youth had asked Azizan to explain the project and logging plantations in Papua New Guinea which incurred losses of about RM13.49 million. Its Youth chief, Tan Keng Liang said that based on reports issued by the Auditor-General in 2011, the Kedah Government had incurred losses in its logging and plantation projects, registered in that country. bernama.my/bernama/v7/po/newspolitics.php?id=1014236
