ALS Ice Bucket Challenge I have been nominated by Walter - TopicsExpress

ALS Ice Bucket Challenge I have been nominated by Walter Bennett to accept the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. (Thank you very much, my good friend.) I knew this was going around, but knew hardly anything about it, so I did a little research. The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was created to help raise awareness and research funds for finding a cure for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. I only knew a little about ALS, but I went to the ALS Association’s web page and read about it. Next . . . There were no definitive rules for this challenge, all in one place; so I have tried to assemble them here for myself . . . and you. THE RULES: 1. After nominated you have 24 hours to complete the challenge. 2. If you choose to accept the challenge, within 24 hours, you will have dumped a bucket of ice cube laden water over your head; AND make a donation, between $10 - $20 to help fund research to cure ALS -- OR -- You may elect to forego the ice cube assault and simply donate $100 or more to an ALS charity. 3. Finally, if you have chosen to accept the challenge, after your ice cube violation, you then are permitted to nominate three people to the challenge. I have chosen to accept the challenge, but in keeping with being an independent Congregationalist, I have also created my own modifications to the rules. I’ve been rather ill this week, so I granted myself an extension to the 24 hour timeframe. Ice water can be extremely painful to people with certain conditions such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, RSD, and other neuropathic, dystrophic and other such conditions and diseases; so modifications of the contents of the bucket are allowed. If making an additional donation, outside of what you normally do, creates a financial hardship, then I would encourage you to let your imagination take over. Our community always needs volunteers. Have you thought about what you can do at the church or for the town? Finally, if you find yourself being nominated more than once, I think that only one bucket of ice water and donation are required.
