ALWAYS SATISFIED WITH JESUS Psalms 107:9 INTRODUCTION: The book of Psalms is divided into five sections and one presents God in a particular aspect. Also we find that He is worshiped in a unique way. This chapter marks the beginning of the fifth division. Men are seeking various ways and means to satisfy themselves today. Some force their bodies to unusual and strange things. The reason that they do this is because of their lack of spiritual contentment and satisfaction. We are living in a day of excess. The thought of the day is, bigger bodies, bigger buildings, and bigger budgets. All this in an attempt to satisfy the longing in their hearts. You might say that man is looking for love in all that wrong places. You may as well try to catch the east wind, as try to satisfy immortal hunger with sensual pleasure. The world can stimulate and excite, but it cannot give rest. Before considering my subject, I want to take a negative look at some things I am not satisfied with. I am not satisfied with the: 1. The world Our position in the world, our program for the world. 2. The worldliness in Christianity today Apathy and insincerity proves that worldliness exists in the ranks of Christianity today. 3. The waywardness of people People are so wayward today, possessing no stability whatsoever. Now I want us to consider my subject for today. You pick out some very fine person whom you admire greatly, then you say, "He lives the most wonderful life." But when you come closer to this person you find that he is not perfect, there are some flaws in his character. But when you call Jesus here. Look at Him from every standpoint. You will find no fault in Him. ILLUSTRATION: Preachers subject, "The Verdict of the Ages." I’m satisfied with Jesus. I. I AM SATISFIED WITH HIS BOOK The Bible is not merely a book. It is the BOOK. The book that from it flows the issues of life. The importance of its subjects. The wideness of its range. The majesty of its Author, stands as high above all other books as the heaven is high above the earth. This the book of Jesus Christ. Infidels deny it. Scoffers mock it, by I’m satisfied with it. You may ask me why I will tell you why. A. HIS BOOK GIVES LIFE 1 Pet 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. We are begotten by the Word. B. HIS BOOK GIVES LIGHT Ps 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. We are pilgrims traveling along an unknown way. We need light to reveal the way ahead. The Bible has much to say about light. C. HIS BOOK TELLS OF HIS LOVE 1. Divine in its nature I Jn 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. I Jn 4:16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. 2. Definite in its giving John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. 3. Durable in its affection Jer 31:3 The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee. II. I AM SATISFIED WITH HIS BLOOD The blood is a scarlet thread that is woven through the entire Word of God. Early in sacred writings God revealed that life was in the blood. Gen 9:4 But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat. In the New Testament the blood of Christ is synonymous with the life of Christ. The blood of Christ: A. MADE PEACE FOR THE SINNERS Col 1:20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. 1. It cleanses 2. It claims B. BRINGS PEOPLE INTO A NEW FELLOWSHIP Eph 2:12-13 12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world: 13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. C. CLEANSETH FROM SIN I Jn 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. D. ENABLES MAN TO ENTER THE PRESENCE OF GOD Heb 10:19-20 19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; E. THE POWER TO OVERCOME SATAN Rev 12:10-12 10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. 12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. F. PROVIDES THE THEME OF ETERNAL SONGS Rev 5:12 Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing. III. I AM SATISFIED WITH HIS BLESSINGS Eph 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: The apostle begins with blessings and three times in one verse does he use the same word. A. THE TEMPORAL BLESSINGS We need to thank God for our home and everything that He provided for us. God does meet our need. B. THE SPIRITUAL BLESSINGS Our salvation, our standing, and our security. C. THE ETERNAL BLESSINGS Heaven, happiness, and inheritance. VI. I AM SATISFIED WITH HIS BUILDING 1 Pet 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. "Lively stones". The temple made a profound impression upon the minds of the apostles. Here Peter seizes hold on the idea to illustrate the growth and the grandeur of the Church. A. THE CHURCH IS THE BRIDE OF CHRIST Speaks of the beauty of the Church B. THE CHURCH IS THE BODY OF CHRIST Speaks of the function of the Church C. THE CHURCH IS THE BUILDING OF CHRIST Speaks of the completeness of the Church.
