AMAZING BRAD NEWS!!!! So...BRAD JUST CALLED ME!!!! We were both almost in tears at the beginning, to hear each others voices after his first month of strangers and screaming. But, we quickly found our strength and he asked if Id gotten his letter about being in the hospital, yet. Umm, NO...I have not. He received a head injury about a week ago and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. He was scanned and kept overnight, then released back to his flight to complete his training with them. He had suffered a mild concussion, but everything is fine, now. I am so thankful that he is in great care and am so proud of him for going through that alone. It hurts my heart to know I wasnt there, but hes fine now, so tears for that are unnecessary and his courage is in my thoughts. He has taken his turn at working various jobs - working in the kitchen, cleaning the latrines, etc. But his favorite so far is securing the dormitory. He is responsible for guarding the dorms and he has found that he enjoys the role of protector of his flight, which is so great! He also liked this week of field first aid work and weapon training. He is learning so much about himself and developing new strengths. I am just overwhelmingly proud of him! I was very encouraging and supportive and was listening intently to his voice, as he spoke. I said I couldnt wait to see him at graduation and Woo Hoo for being at the half-way point. We said our I love yous, I miss yous and good-byes, then hung up. I turned to Nichole, who was driving, and said, Im going to need to cry, now. I sobbed for nearly 15-minutes, as she held my hand and offered support and comfort to me. I held onto my phone for an hour after the phone call and sobbed again when I realized I was having difficulty letting it go. My heart aches so much for him and I miss him terribly. But at the same time, I am so proud of him and know this whole thing is such a great experience for him, which makes me very, very happy. My emotions are all over the place right now. He has gotten the letters from those of you who have written and he said to say Thank You for him. He thanked Chris Reese for saying he felt secure in knowing Brad was protecting his freedom (or however he worded it, it was such a great thing to have said). And again, if anyone else would like to write to Brad at basic training, message me and I will be happy to share his address with you. Ok, thats the wonderful Brad Update. Good Night, America.
