AMAZING NEWS!!!! I am happy that the universe has conspired on my behalf to prepare me for this tremendous opportunity. I came to L.A. in the beginning for reasons that were not fully clear, then I left and was called back for reasons that captured my attention. After coming back and giving into all of that, I just received the news that I/my company, Breast Cancer Partner, was chosen to be the project manager for a statewide initiative to address the disparities issues/gap in breast cancer among African American women in California. To all my friends and family who have believed in me, supported, and encouraged me and my dreams unconditionally, and have been there through thick and thin, the ups and downs, and the good times and the not so good ones, to say a mere thank you does not seem like enough. MUCH LOVE to you all. I cannot find the words to express my gratitude for what that has meant to me nor your support has lifted me up to enable me to do what I needed to do to make all of this happen. I am happy and elated that I am able to do work that is driven by my passion and purpose that will make a difference in the lives of African American women across the state of California. While incidence rates are lower, African American women suffer significantly higher mortality rates, 41 percent higher than their Caucasian counterparts. For women without health coverage, the burden is even higher – uninsured women have a 30 to 50 percent in-creased risk of dying from breast cancer than those with insurance. In some California cities, the risk is even greater. In Los Angeles, a black woman with breast cancer is about 70 percent more likely to die from the disease than a white woman is. We will make history and prevent African women from dying from breast cancer unnecessarily. How awesome is that!!!!
