AMERICA: Imagine the World Without Her - Review Notes 3 As previously reviewed here, Dinesh DSouza film and book, America: Imagine the World Without Her, takes apart historian, Howard Zinn as he reports America as having exploit slavery as a way of acquiring cheap labor. No one can refute that the issue of Slavery in America was a human injustice against ones fellow man. But it should also be remember our Countrys bloody Civil War where many good Americans gave their life to defeat its practice. But that being said, here are some interesting facts that DSouza enters into the discussion on Slavery in America: 1. At one point in Americas history there were an equal number of slaves owned by both white men AND freed black slaves; 2. One of the most feared and abusive land and slave owners was himself a black freed slave; 3. The practice of designating the oppressed as slaves worldwide and throughout history has been a cultural norm. This practice is not necessary a condemnation of early America but instead is a construct of evil men. Witness the Egyptian ownership of oppressed Jewish slaves. 4. In our early history, european countries were shipping thousands of indentured servants, mostly white, to the Colonies for a slave term of 7 years. They often worked side-by-side with slaves of color. It is not my intent to justify slavery-- far from it. But the film, America does make some good arguments to defend our history from leftist historical revisionism. nic
