AMINU BALELE KURFI URGED NFF A renowned sports administrator Alhaji Aminu Balele Kurfi has urged the Nigeria Football Federation to replace the current bonus enjoyed by national team players with appearance fees as part of measures to end wrangling in the national teams. Kurfi, who is the Chairman of Future Africa Football Academy, told Daily Trust in a telephone interview that those fanning the embers of war by insisting that the players be paid $10, 000 should desist from doing so in the interest of the nation. While appealing to the players to back down on their demand, noted that the Nigeria Football Federation is currently facing financial crisis as a result of the nation’s poor economy, which according to him was enough for the players accept what is being offered them at the moment. “The Nigeria Football Federation is actually facing financial crisis at the moment, which is a general thing in the country, occasioned by the dwindling economy that has affected all sectors, including roads, health and power. What the Federation should do now is to begin to implement the payment of appearance fees to all national team players instead of the current bonuses so as to end the perennial crisis over bonus. But the NFF should also know that the players are making commitments and they should find a way of paying them. But on the whole, the players, team officials and the NFF should come together and find a way of resolving this amicably,” Kurfi advised. He noted that the implementation of appearance fees regime in countries like Brazil has greatly proved effective, with players and administrators enjoying cordial relationship. Finally, he congratulated the Super Eagles, their handlers and the NFF for picking a ticket for the playoff of the Brazil 2014 World Cup, and urged them to be focused to ensure the country qualifies for the World Cup proper.
