AMOSUN TASKS MDAs ON IGR INCREASE AS OGUN PREPARES NEXT YEAR BUDGET As the Ogun State government is preparing ground for its 2014 budget, Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government in the State have been enjoined to think outside the box and explore new ways of increasing their Internally Generated Revenue (IGR). The State Governor Senator Ibikunle Amosun made the call today in Abeokuta while flagging off a two-day treasury board meeting on the budget, cautioning however that such should be done without bringing any form of inconvenience to the people. Amosun said the call became imperative to augment the shortfall in federal allocation occurring in recent times, noting that though the State government does not have unlimited access to fund, but it believed that things must be done according to worlds best practices. Hinting that the next year’s budget might be slightly lower than this year’s, Amosun noted that the need for effective budgeting cannot be over-emphasised for any government to achieve its vision and mission towards fulfilling campaign promises. “While each Ministry or Agency is presenting the request as to how much we will need, we should also think of how much we can generate, we do not have unlimited assess to funds, indeed we are going to have a reduced budget for obvious reasons”, the Governor remarked. Speaking further, Amosun said “you will agree with me that this is the 3rd time we are coming together like this to say we want to plan our budget and you know there is what we call world best practices under so many accounting regulations, we’ve been very faithful because it is Ogun State, we must do it according to world best practices and that is why we are here today”. He therefore charged all officers concerned in the various agencies to be resourceful, painstaking and partake effectively in the process, commending the Ministry of Budget and Planning for the various steps earlier taken before the treasury board meeting. Earlier in her welcome address, Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mrs. Oluwande Muoyo noted that her agency started the budgeting process since July with a 3-day workshop, adding that it had equally updated the State’s 2011 economic master plan and presently working on the medium term strategies that would lead to the medium term-expenditure framework.
