AN ABSOLUTELY HEROIC EXAMPLE OF TEAMWORK DEFIES THE ODDS AND, AFTER NINE HOURS ON TREACHEROUS ROADS, MUTT MUFFIN IS SAFELY DELIVERED TO THE ER VET LATE LAST NIGHT! Yesterday was a historic day for so many reasons; Atlanta came to an absolute standstill due to a deadly snow and ice storm which stranded thousands of motorists. A State of Emergency was declared as roads became gridlock. People slept in cars; children slept in schools because roads simply could not be passed. But one small car with two giant angels inside transporting our beloved Golden Doodle named Mutt Muffin could not be dissuaded. Their car slid down hills, wove through numerous accidents, and literally ran out of gas as what should have been a ONE hour journey grew into a NINE hour exercise in grace under pressure. Many would have given up and this poor dog, hooked up to an IV drip, likely wouldnt have survived. But they didnt quit. They were on a mission to deliver Mutt Muffin to a larger, ER hospital with specialized surgeons who could help him. They knew his life depended upon it. When they were within a half mile of the hospital, they phoned for help as they could not get him there in time. And, in true heroic fashion, these two angels met a third angel among us, a vet tech who PERSONALLY RAN a half mile (or should we say skated!) with equipment to transfer Mutt Muffin to the hospital where doctors and surgeons waited for him. We see so much death, abuse, and sadness in the world of animal rescue that to see the level of teamwork that was demonstrated yesterday amidst utter chaos gives us goosebumps. We ask for money from our FB fans to help save lives. These donations go directly towards helping animals like Mutt Muffin and pay for vetting bills so the animals can go on to live happy lives in forever homes. But so much of our ability to save animals rests with our people. EXTRAORDINARY PEOPLE. People like these two transporters and a vet tech who just wouldnt quit when odds were stacked against them. We love our animals, of course, but WE LOVE OUR PEOPLE, ALL VOLUNTEERS, SO VERY MUCH. This is why we get very sad and upset when people question or criticize us and our work. We have the most amazing people! People like these two transporters who paid for their own gas, endangered their own health, and were willing to sleep in their own car in sub-zero temps last night to make sure Mutt Muffin got to safety. We exhale this morning knowing Mutt Muffin is still alive and safe and is now in the most comprehensive animal medical facility in the SouthEast that can best treat him. We thank you, our FB fans and followers...wherever you are in the world.... even if you are not in Atlanta, you are very much an angel. Thank you for believing in Mutt Muffin, supporting AAU, and thank you for helping us on our journey to save one til there are none. Mutt Muffins journey yesterday is nothing short of a miracle. We will continue to udpate as we are able; adoption applications for this angel, who smiled when we opened the trunk to bring him to safety, can be submitted at angelsrescue.org/adopt. Thank you!
