AN APPEAL TO HELP THE VERY HISTORIC TOWN OF BALANGIGA IN EASTERN SAMAR. PLEASE....ITS DEVASTATION IS MASSIVE. Dear Cesar Here is an update from my friends in Balangiga- ICRC (International Red Cross) has given relief but not enough. 16/16 barangays are ravaged. The beautiful parish church is now in shambles. I spoke with Dick Gordon asking if PRC has gone to Mercedes and Balangiga and he said yes but apparently upon checking also with the Parish priest in Mercedes they got also from ICRC. Gordon is a good friend and he said that a kit(relief P3000) contains sleeping kit, hygiene kit and food to last for 3 days. He is willing to send goods there directly. DSWD gave rice and canned goods but limited. The diocese of Borongan gave noodles and canned goods also limited. THere is no potable drinking water. In Mercedes people have to walk a kilometer to get drinking water Giving the money directly to my friends and/or parish priest is useless because they do not have any place to buy the necessary goods except to travel to Calbayog. I am also contacting a friend in PAF who may schedule a C130 if I have enough goods to fill it up. However, I am only sending my own personal donation of clothes and building materials. I need more. I am sending you this update only because I love SAMAR too even though I am from Negros. I will not stop until I can get them the goods they will need. Hopefully you can really rally US Samarenos to help. The Diocese of Borongan website contains photos of areas ravaged by Haiyan. Have a good sleep and I will keep in touch.
