AN IMPORTANT FIGHT The battle lines are being drawn here in the fight against the expansion of oil palm plantations, not just here in Palawan and Mindanao in the Philippines, but all across SE Asia. Last year I witnessed first-hand this environmental holocaust in Borneo, which is exactly what it is, because it systematically wipes out all of the cultural and biological diversity of the countries that it gets a foothold in. This feels like the front line in this ongoing and crucially important environmental battle, because the plantations are relatively new here compared to Indonesia and Malaysia. I can feel myself getting drawn into this struggle, and it has come at just the right time for me.
