AN OPEN LETTER TO THE AFRICAN YOUTH I hope this brief and honest letter finds you in good health. Young people of Africa, awake from your slumber of laziness and hear the call of the future! Do you realise you are now becoming a doomed generation? Do you comprehend that the fate of the Africa and of generations to come after you rests on your shoulders? Do you realise that at any time you may be called to save Africa from its calamities and quagmires? How can you possibly laugh in the face of the disasters and tragedies which we face as Africans? How ignorant are you the youth of Africa? How oblivious are you? The time has come for you to rise and be the change you want to see in this world and can you all say with confidence, we are the people we have been waiting for, it is in us and it is NOW. You may have the nerve to blame apartheid but the times have change and now it’s all in your hands. The death of Africa did not began the day colonialists came to Africa. No! it originated the day you retreated from the habit of thinking and reading. Today, it is almost impossible to find a youth who speak with content, who think independently and elucidate views that could change the nervous conditions of our people -African people. Mbeki warned you of the calamitous retreat by the African youth from the habit of reading and writing. Forget, PW Botha, forget Ian Smith and all the architects of apartheid. Rise up and save yourself from your own ignorance. Free yourself from your own obliviousness. I warn you today young people of Africa, if you don’t start now it will be too late, and the blame for the end of the Africa will be laid on your feet. Yours in struggle...Tshepo Masipa
