He was speaking at a gala dinner to honour uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) soldiers in Lethabong. The ANC in Lethabong ward 27 celebrated Heritage Day by laying wreaths at the graves of fallen MK soldiers. The ward was also named after Thabo MoKhaba an MK soldier who died in 2000. Mmusa said the youth was being misled to leave the ANC. “Young people do not know the pains of apartheid. They never experience it that is why they are being misled.” He said the formation of parties such as the EFF was aimed at weakening the ANC. Lethabong once an ANC stronghold had lost a substantial amount of its youth members to the EFF, founded by expelled former ANC Youth League president Julius Malema. The North West provincial secretary of the MK Military Veterans Association (MKMVA) Victor Tsie told the people gathered at the event that the remains of MK soldier Buti Lefoa would be repatriated to South Africa. He would be re-buried in Lethabong. He said Lefoa was shot dead in Zimbabwe by game rangers who mistook him for a poacher in 1989. “MK cadres were crossing into Zimbabwe from Zambia when he was shot.” He said the MKMVA had took a resolution that all soldiers who died in exile should be repatriated. “We are working with the ANC, families and the National Prosecuting Authority in identifying our fallen freedom fighters.” Tsie said those who had left the ANC did not deserve to be part of the party’s history. “They removed themselves from our history. Some of them contributed a lot and it hurts to see them leaving.” He said the ANC invested a lot in training MK soldiers. “That is why we are in defense of the ANC. We are loyal to it.”
