ANCYL CONGRATULATES SASCO FOR WINNING ELECTIONS AT MUT The South African Students Congress (SASCO) on Friday won the SRC elections at Mangosuthu University of Technology (MUT) in yet another clear indication that the African National Congress youth arms still remain the trusted champions of young people’s interests. SASCO’s landslide victory at MUT happened at the time when the ANC was still celebrating another huge election victory it registered during by-elections in Mthonjaneni and Newcastle municipalities. In both the SRC elections and by-elections, the electorate rejected the outdated and poor performing Inkatha Freedom party which has been desperately trying to project itself as an alternative to our movement. According to the results, SASCO, our hard working student arm, won the SRC elections with 3189 votes while SADESMO (IFP student wing) which was the incumbent received just above 1000 vote. Just like its mother body the IFP which was given the boot as a ruling party in KwaZulu-Natal and many municipalities in the province because of appalling performance, SADESMO has also been kicked out of office at MUT because it failed to represent the interests of students. It is worth mentioning that the Democratic Alliance student arm, DASO only received 41 votes which is a clear vote of no confidence in the DA which does not represent the interests of the majority of South Africans. We urge our student wing in all tertiary institutions in KwaZulu-Natal to continue being the champions of young people’s interests. The ANC Youth League thanks all the students who ensured that their future is in good hands by voting for SASCO. We are humbled by their unwavering support and the victory will certainly ensure that issues affecting students at MUT are dealt with as we have faith in the leadership that has been entrusted with the mammoth task of leading the SRC in the institution. We have no doubt that SASCO will continue leading campaigns of ensuring that education is accessible to all the students as espoused by the Freedom Charter. Issued by the ANCYL
