ANDREA GADA I am sure that many of you saw on the news before Christmas the report of the tragic death of Andrea Gada, a young child killed in a road accident in Eastbourne. You may also be aware of the Home Office’s decision not to allow her Grandparents and Aunt entry into the United Kingdom so that they can attend the funeral. The local community has been rallying around to support the family and have raised over £5000 to pay for their return flights and towards funeral costs, however the Home Office are still refusing to issue a temporary visa. Our local MP has requested the Prime Minister to review the case, and Bishop Martin has offered his wholehearted support. Stephen Lloyd is now asking for church members and leaders in the town to offer their support and is requesting that individuals write to the Prime Minister asking him to intervene, so that the right decision can be taken on moral rather than legalistic grounds, and that the funeral may go ahead with all the family present. I would also urge you to consider writing as I feel it is morally unjust and reprehensible to refuse the visa on the grounds that the family from Zimbabwe cannot be trusted to return because they are poor. Please share this and show your support!
