ANHA CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN DAY 1 - WEST BATON ROUGE - TopicsExpress

ANHA CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN DAY 1 - WEST BATON ROUGE PARISH Have you ever wondered what the inside of a traditional #Louisiana sugar complex looks like? Cinclare Plantation Sugar Mill, located north of Bruly, was the last working sugar mill in West Baton Rouge Parish when it closed in 2005. Once a thriving company town with its own currency, work animals, plantation store, staff housing and railroad, the group of buildings that remains (46 buildings and two structures) is a rare example of a south #Louisiana sugar complex. Evidence that this land was used as a working plantation can be traced back to 1803, and the site is listed as a Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places - NPS. While the complex is mainly used for storage now and is not open to the public, you can explore whats left of its inner workings through the link below. This post also wraps up our ANHA Christmas Countdown. We hope you enjoyed learning a bit more about each of the 14 parishes that make up the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area!
