ANNOUNCEMENT FOR GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING/ELECTIONS The next SMAWL Board of Directors Meeting will also be a General Membership Meeting and election of members to the Board of Directors. The meeting date is Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at the Conference Room of the Dorsey Law Firm located at 22835 Washington Street, Leonardtown, Maryland 20650. The Conference Room is located in the old church. There are 11 members of the Board of Directors and 6 seats are up for election. Service on the SMAWL Board of Directors in an incredible opportunity to work with a dedicated team of animal advocates, to shape the world of animal rescue in St. Mary’s County, and to lead the mission and vision of SMAWL. If you would like to run for a seat, only current members of SMAWL and active volunteers are eligible for election as directors. Board members are also expected to keep their personal pets up-to-date on their vetting. In addition, from the Board members we will be electing our Vice President and Secretary. If you would like to run for a seat on the Board of Directors please submit your name and a brief biography of yourself to include why you want to serve on the Board and a little about yourself including your experience with animals and volunteer activities in general to smawl@yahoo. You must be willing to volunteer your time with adoption events, fund raisers, meetings, etc. The regular Board of Directors meetings are on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. While you can be nominated up to and at the time of meeting, we ask that you if you are interested in running for a seat on the Board or if you wish to nominate someone to the Board, that you provide the information no later than February 8, 2014 so that we have time to prepare the ballots. There will be an opportunity to write-in a candidate on the ballot as well. If you are not interested in running for a seat on the Board of Directors we still encourage you to attend the meeting and find out what’s going on with SMAWL and vote in the election. Current members of SMAWL are entitled to vote. To become a member of SMAWL, you can complete Membership Application on our website (smawl.org). You can mail your payment to P.O. Box 1232, Leonardtown, MD 20650, pay via credit/debit card through PayPal directly on our website, or turn in your Membership Application and payment at one of our adoption events, PETCO (1st and 3rd Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.) or The Cat Castle (Saturday and Sunday between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.).
