ANOTHER GREAT COMMUNITY OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE YOUR VOICE Seeking Spoken Word Artists and Lyricists! 3rd Annual Speaking Justice Thursday, January 15, 2015 7PM @ MU Horizon Room “What justice do you need to speak into the world?” Interested performers, please email Jacquelynn Allen at [email protected] by Sunday, January 04, 2014 UHDS Diversity Initiatives and Programs, Sol: LGBTQ Multicultural Support Network, and Social Change Leadership Programs, invite you to participate in the 3rd annual Speaking Justice, in collaboration with the Martin Luther King Jr. celebration. The event will take place Thursday, January 15th at 7PM in the Memorial Union Horizon Room. Speaking Justice is a space for students, staff, and community members to unite our powerful voices as spoken art performers and social justice community members inspired by the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a legacy that is relevant to justice movements past, present and worldwide. We are working to bring Sister Outsider Poetry, an award-winning nationally recognized spoken word duo consisting of Denice Frohman the 2013 Women of the World Poetry Slam Champion and Leeway Transformation Award recipient and Dominique Christina author of The Bones, The Breaking and The Balm, and Women of the World Poetry Slam Champion in 2012 & 2014. They are currently the top two out of three female slam poets in the world. Sister Outsider stands at the intersection of art and activism, using poetry as a tool for social change. sisteroutsiderpoetry/ We are currently looking for 8 people who would like to share their lyrical talents through original poetry, speeches, lyrics, and other spoken arts. We would like artists to prepare pieces that answer the question: “What justice do you need to speak into the world?” All performers will have 5 minutes to showcase their piece or pieces.
