ANOTHER KIDNAPPING OF SCHOOL STUDENT IN MAPUTO Yesterday morning a student from American International School of Maputo was kidnapped while walking to school. As a wave of kidnappings continues to shake the city, this has been the latest attack on an under-age minor. By the early afternoon the American International School of Maputo had sent out an email to parents and guardians warning them of the criminal incidence, while the American Embassy confirmed it was helping assist in the investigation. “We have been receiving many calls on the matter and we are having to sieve through fact and fiction,” confirmed a representative of the embassy via telephone. The student was identified as not being tied to the diplomatic community but the embassy nonetheless was helping to assist the parents in the recovery of their child. “We are still a little bit in the dark but are doing everything possible to get more information on the matter,” affirmed the embassy. The incidence was briefly mentioned on Jeremias Langa´s STV talk show Linha Aberta, which this week astonishingly featured Manish Cantilal and his representative lawyer. Accused of being the mastermind perpetrator behind four of the kidnappings occurring behind this new wave of crime. Manish was recently released after 40 days in jail without a hearing, following the death of Judge Danis Silica, who was recently murdered in central Maputo. Cantilal was accused of being the mastermind behind this new form of crime in Mozambique´s capital. According to Langa, the American International School student, said to be 15 years old, was kidnapped from Avenida Marginal. The police have so far not released any official statement on the matter.
