ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL WORKING BEE here today and thanks to all the helpers who braved the heat to work mainly on Irenes garden today, spreading mulch and planting another 20 fig trees. We now have over 50 different varieties of figs, some quite rare. Each working bee brings new people into the community and we were pleased to meet three new helpers today. Lois and Abeda took over the kitchen duties cooking the lovely BBQ and cleaning up afterwards so Joe could direct operations in the garden and this worked really well. We must make special mention of the Warner family who turn up pretty much every week and work so hard at whatever task is at hand. We wondered whether their extraordinary grandma might be slowed down a bit in the hot weather but no, she still managed an output a strapping 20 year old could be proud of - what a woman! The next planned working bee will be 23 November when we have invited members of the Rare Fruit Society to participate. This is an excellent opportunity to hang out with some people who have an encyclopaedic knowledge of fruit growing and from whom we have gained a lot of our expertise. Anyone who wants to drop by on a Saturday will usually find us working in the garden and we welcome help at any time with the Open being just over three months away! Just phone or PM us to make sure we are home, especially if you are driving some distance. After a lean few weeks of harvest we now look forward to continuous fruiting over the next few glorious months - Adelaide in summer is just heaven on earth!
