AP to Waive Crop Loans Below Rs 50,000 HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh government has decided to waive crop loans up to Rs 50,000 at one go. The government has identified about 60 lakh accounts of the total 81 lakh accounts of the farmers which are eligible for loan waiver scheme. Speaking to reporters here Friday, AP agriculture minister P Pulla Rao said the government had decided to make the payment of crop loans up to Rs 50,000 immediately after chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s return from his Japan tour. Rao, however, did not disclose the exact date from which the government would implement the loan waiver scheme. “We have already asked the banks not to include crop loans under NPA as the government is all set to implement the crop loan waiver scheme,” he said. According to Pulla Rao, 60 per cent of the eligible accounts fall in the category of small accounts where the loans taken vary from Rs 50,000-Rs 75,000. The minister further said few farmers had given wrong details about their crops. “Officials have come across cases where farmers have changed the crop from paddy to turmeric to get higher scale of finance as compensation,” he said. Rao informed that soon all the vacant posts in agriculture and allied departments would be filled. Pulla Rao said that the state government has decided to set up e-marketing facility to agricultural products on the lines of Karnataka.
