APC SOUTH SOUTH CALLS REUBEN ABATI TO ORDER Prince Hilliard Eta, - TopicsExpress

APC SOUTH SOUTH CALLS REUBEN ABATI TO ORDER Prince Hilliard Eta, National Vice Chairman, South South (APC) We noticed a belated threat by the Presidency to institute legal action against the Executive Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency Rotimi Amaechi; as published by some national dailies and internet news media including The Nation of Monday, October 27, 2014. We are compelled to respond because of the inaccuracies and falsehoods contained in the statement. The President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Reuben Abati, mentioned that they are considering legal action against the governor for saying amongst other things that the Jonathan administration is the most corrupt Nigeria has ever witnessed and that the president has allowed graft to reach an ‘industrial scale’. The aide also berated Amaechi for cautioning the first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, against undue interference in the country’s administration. While we recognize that Reuben Abati is struggling to please his paymasters, we generously advise him to do it with the greatest sense of responsibility and decorum. He should strive as much as possible to restrain himself from issuing statements that are misleading as it insults the sensibility of Nigerians. The present administration is globally notorious for making allowances for corruption. The president even said openly at a point that ‘stealing is not corruption.’ And with billions of dollars virtually disappearing from the treasury almost on a daily basis, Abati does not need a prophet to tell him that Amaechi spoke out of his concern for Rivers State and the country when he lamented that Jonathan’s presidency has brought nothing but hardship to the zone. No sane person would threaten to drag the governor to court for also advising the president’s wife to steer clear of the affairs of the country and refrain from unnecessarily interfering in the government of the country and some states in the South South Zone. Having witnessed the near anarchy and lawlessness that the First Lady instigated in Rivers state using a former commissioner of police and an ex minister of state for Education, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, as puppets to actualize her aim of seizing the state. Let us remind Abati that Amaechi did not violate any law, constitutional or moral, when he rebuked Dame Patience Jonathan for her concerted attempt to snatch the governance of the state from the duly elected governor. APC South South points out that but for the resolve, purposefulness and doggedness of the governor, Patience Jonathan would have by now reduced Rivers state to a personal fiefdom with the active connivance of the presidency. In a show of sheer desperation to ridicule Amaechi, Abati said Rivers state has not justified its monthly allocation. Apparently, PDP still grieves over the loss of Rivers and four other states to the opposition almost a year ago, hence the concerted attempts to cast aspersions at the governors at every turn, it’s the only reason Abati can make such starkly false statement. We challenge him and his taskmasters in the Presidency to bring out the records and show Nigerians just one PDP state in the South South and the entire country that is better developed than Rivers or other APC controlled states. Much as Abati would like to paint every white thing black, APC states have done creditably well despite the known attempts of the federal government to witch hunt the governors and frustrate them because they are not in PDP. Being Abuja based, the spokesman and his bosses may not be abreast with existing political realities, otherwise, they would have realized that the petty attempt to cheapen Amaechi’s person is ill advised. The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the governor have massive followership in the state due to the performance index as his scorecard shows. The gargantuan crowd that filled the forty thousand seater stadium and stretched for miles outside the complex at the just concluded mega rally in Port Harcourt lends credence to this. While advising the presidency not to trivialize the constitution of the country and the courts of the land, we remind them that no amount of mudslinging can call attention away from the fact that the Jonathan 6 year administration has been a monumental failure to the entire federation. The South South zone is the worse for it as we have absolutely nothing to show despite having the president from our zone. That posterity and history may be kind to him, we advise the President to use the few remaining months of his administration to make an impact, not indulge in irrelevant and trifling affairs. Signed: Bassey Ita Special Adviser on Media and Publicity Office of the National Vice Chairman, South South (APC). https://dailytrust.ng/daily/politics/38246-amaechi-was-right-to-criticise-jonathan
