APNI PASAND - This song Jawan Hai Mohabbat from the movie Anmol Ghadi (1945) by Singer Actress : Noor Jehan, under music direction of Naushad, is my all time favourites and amongst the list of immortal songs. This is also a tribute to the legendary singer, Noor Jehan on her 88th birth anniversary, today. She sang 127 songs in Indian films and acted in 69 Indian movies from 1932 to 1947. Noor Jehan was born in Kasur district in Punjab on September 21, 1926 and started her film career at the young age of nine. “Khandan” (1942) was her first blockbuster movie, as the main lead opposite Pran. In 1944, she and Lata Mangeshkar, featured in the movie “Badi Maa”, both as singer actresses, their only movie together. And then in 1945 came the greatest one, Mehboob Khans “Anmol Ghadi”, with Surendra and Suraiya as co-stars with music by Naushad. Latter in 1947, 24-year old Yusuf Khan (Dilip Kumar) played the lead role opposite Noor in “Jugnu” which proved a big hit. After the creation of Pakistan in 1947, she moved to Karachi. Noor Jahen visited India in 1982 to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Indian talkie movies, and was received by her long-time friend Lata, her Jugnu dream Dilip Kumar, and the creator of the immortal Anmol Ghadi music Naushad, after the lapse of four decades. On 23 Dec 2000, she died as a result of heart failure.
